Company History

The Company commenced trading in late 1976. The Companies objectives were identified as carrying out business as building contractors. Initially projects involved clients in the private sector with contracts up to a value of £50,000.

Private Clients during the early period of trading involved development, conversions and refurbishment.  Sites were generally within thirty mile radius of our Bath office base and included Swindon, Chippenham and Bristol.

During 1978, the Company applied for and was granted Membership of the National House Building Council.  We embarked on several small private housing developments, funded with support from its bankers, National Westminster plc.

A development of four detached properties at Holcombe, near Stratton on the Fosse became the first in a series of Kennet design schemes.

The Company has enjoyed continuous membership of the NHBC, although currently is not involved on any private speculative new build housing projects. Additionally, during this early period, the Company sought approval from Public sector clients.

Prudent financial management and the creation of a track record assisted with the Company's ability at being selected for tendering, projects successfully undertaken during these early years included:

  • Internal alterations, County Hall, Trowbridge for Wiltshire County Council
  • Construction of Vobster Post Office, Somerset
  • Construction of new bakery factory/shop at Westbury
  • New County Library entrance facility and hallway, Trowbridge for Wiltshire County Council
  • Construction of new extension and alterations at Bradford on Avon Primary School for Wiltshire County Council
  • Internal improvements and fire proofing works to BISF housing stock, Avonmouth, and Ashton for City of Bristol

From the mid 1980's, the Company maintained a balance in its client portfolio, working both for the Public and Private (which included contracts for Housing Associations).

The Company was also involved with the supply and installation of lightweight internal partition systems at a time when there existed a DHSS approved installer list. Projects included:

  • Bristol Eye Hospital
  • Barrow-in-Furness Hospital
  • Wordsley Hospital
  • Haverfordwest Hospital
  • Arbertillery Hospital

For Local Authorities, the Company became involved with housing improvements which included working on PRC repair and refurbishment projects on a variety of PRC defective house types. In excess of one thousand social houses have been repaired by the Company.  In addition to this type of work we are familiar to refurbishment works to several hundred steel framed BISF properties in Bristol. The refurbishment works consisted of fire proofing, insulating, internal lining, rewiring, steel and concrete repairs and ancillary works to services.
